I’ve just finished the Hunger Games trilogy and want to read another really good young-adult book series. these are the ones im thinking about reading:

Ender’s Game series
The Maze Runner series
Divergent series
The Host
Gone series

could you recommend one of these series’ and tell me a little bit about them? also, if theres any other sci fi book series i should read please recommend. I like meaningful books with deep themes and well written characters. thanks

Chosen Answer:

Definitely read Ender’s Game. The subsequent novels in the series aren’t as good as the first, but still entertaining. Ender’s Game has a couple of incredible twists, and combat like that in the Hunger Games, only better conceived. Beyond that, I love these sci-fi novels for young adults.

Across the Universe by Beth Revis – 2011. When 17-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo on a spaceship, she expects to be thawed 300 years later upon arrival at a new planet. However, her world turns upside down when she is awakened fifty years too early and finds herself embroiled in the mystery surrounding the attempted murders of frozen passengers. Her life endangered by Eldest, the tyrannical leader of the ship’s maintenance population, she turns to her only ally: Elder, the young man destined to take Eldest’s place as leader. As they solve the mystery together, romance blossoms between Amy and Elder, complicating an already complex situation.

The Shore of Monsters by David J. Nix – 2011. Five generations earlier, a horde of monsters nearly obliterated humanity. All males are dead or ruined by a monster plague; words like ‘father’ and ‘romance’ have lost meaning. When teenager Sky joins an expedition to the shore that falls apart, she must survive amongst the monsters that roam the ruins. She gets unexpected help from a very surprising source. Mystery, action, and romance follow!

Blood Red Road (Dustlands Series) by Moira Young – 2012. In a post-apocalyptic future, 18-year-old Saba’s twin brother is stolen by black-clad riders. When tough-as-nails Saba launches a relentless search to recover him, she must fight for her life in gladiator cages, overcome enemies both creature and human, and learn to trust others for the first time. And try as she might, she can’t help but fall for the charming scoundrel Jack, who just may understand her more than she knows. The author tells Saba’s story in a raw first person format that blows you away. Must read for dystopian lovers!

Delirium by Lauren Oliver – 2011. In the tightly controlled society of a future America, love is forbidden, classified as ‘deliria’ by authorities. Three months before her 18th birthday and a mandatory procedure to ‘cure’ her deliria, Lena meets Alex, who sends her heart aflutter. As love blossoms between the two, Lena questions what she has always been told about love, and begins to consider the unthinkable: not submitting to the cure, and choosing deliria instead. Beautifully written, but a little slow.

Divergent by Veronica Roth – 2011. In a future dystopian Chicago, each 16-year old must choose to belong one of five factions, each of which represents a dominant personality trait. For most the choice is easy – simply follow the results an aptitude test. For Beatrice, however, the choice is not simple. Her test indicates three aptitudes. In addition to complicating her life, this fact makes her dangerous to the community for reasons she does not know. What she decides promises to put her in danger, and possibly tilt the entire balance of society.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan – 2010. Seven generations have passed since the Return, a plague that reanimates dead humans into creatures that feed on the living. Teenager Mary lives inside one of the last enclaves of uninfected, protected by a chain link fence that surrounds her village. When the fence is breached, Mary flees the village with a small band of survivors. Their flight toward an uncertain salvation is both harrowing and revealing, as they try to determine if they are humanity’s last hope.

Unwind by Neal Shusterman – 2009. In post-war future, the abortion debate has been solved through compromise. Parents may elect to have their teenage children “unwound”, a process where the teens organs and body parts are harvested for others. The story follows three runaway Unwinds, each discarded for behavior, religious, or economic reasons. As the trio embarks on a harrowing journey of escape, the reader will ponder very heavy moral questions, and wrestle with how much a bad decision can affect future generations. This is a masterpiece on every level!

I’m thinking of studying abroad in Korea, but am super nervous. What are some good, odd, not so pleasant experiences you had? and any tips? thanks!

Chosen Answer:

I lived in Seoul from 1991 to 1992 and stayed most of that time with a family. I was invited to stay with them, but I paid rent at my insistence.

This was a very good experience for me.

I hated living in the uni dorm (Yonsei International House), mainly because it was just not my kind of place. In the dorm, I was surrounded by people who speak English all the time. I wasn’t in Korea just to learn Korean, but why go to Korea as an exchange student just to spend the bulk of your time hanging around with the same kind of people you would be around at home? It makes no sense. I had no peace living in the dorm. Many of the caucasian residents were not exactly full of admiration for Korea and Koreans, either, and I got weary of people complaining excessively about many little things.

Too, I had already completed my undergrad degree before I went to Seoul, and I had worked for a few years, so I was not as much of a party monster as I’d been a few years before, and the dorm was full of party monsters. It just wasn’t my speed. Living with a family was far better.

The family that I stayed with treated me like a son/brother, and I still keep in touch with them.

The experience living with my host family was entirely positive: the food was far better than what I would eat around Yonsei; only one person in the family spoke English, so I had to speak Korean to communicate; it was quiet and peaceful in the home where I lived, and I got to experience the local way of life to a much greater extent than I would have had I remained in the dorm.

I learned to navigate around Seoul by bus and by subway, as I was teaching English on the side (I spent much more time doing that than I did taking classes at Yonsei, which were mostly worthless anyway).

There are downsides; in 1991 there was no Internet for regular folks, and I was homesick from time to time. Using the telephone to keep in touch with friends back home was very costly, and the time difference made it tricky to call without waking someone up, etc. Even though I had some Korean friends, sometimes it’s just good to talk in your native tongue without having to worry if the other person is understanding you 100%.

If you go, and opt for a host family arrangement, try to select a host family with family members that are the same gender and roughly the same age as you. I’m not sure how feasible that might be, but you will probably make a much stronger connection if there are people you can relate to more easily.

I prefer a Windows Operating System. Want to manage at least 10 websites.

Chosen Answer:

you can use either a linux based or a windows based hosting system
linux is the most common / popular and its seamless
Its not something you play around with
You just pop up the webpage from your webcreation program by ftp
Linux is cheaper
However if you are doing database stuff that is done runs somewhow in windows then you need to use a windows hosting setup
Most providers offer both
If you are doing standard webpage stuff the os is not something you are involved with in any way
There are no shortage of web hosting companies
Reliability with a business and tech support are key
Otherwise its false economy
Call tech support on the 800 number to test how fast they answer
Hostgator , Lunarpages , Hostmonster are all good
Bluehost is the best by far overall although none are bad by any stretch
1and1 is a good budget service with limited support

This is for a science project. Please help ASAP. I need to know of some animals that live in Lake Erie and also some plants and I also need to know HOW they adapt to their environment. Well, I need 4 ways they adapt. I have never been there so I honestly do not know. THANKS! XO!

Chosen Answer:

here is a list of plants birds and animals that are found in my neck of the woods – and websites that may help you with the rest of your project

animals – white tail deer, fox. coyote, rabbits, skunks, porcupines, otters, beavers, canadian geese, (mute swans in the spring), raccoons, squirrels, woodchucks, chipmunks (a black bear wintered on presque isle state park erie pa it followed the frozen lake from ohio and left before the park opened for the summer)

fish lake trout (including steel head), perch(lake erie of course), bass,

http://www.fisherie.com/Regulations.asp

the lake erie monster – it is now speculated to be a large sturgeon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bessie_(lake_monster)

bald eagle have nested here, hawks, robins, blue jays, cardinals, finch, black birds, crows,
turkey buzzards, morning dove, the plovers, sea gulls, pigeons, sandpipers and a host of migrating birds http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/findapark/presqueisle/index.htm?tab=Maps#Maps

hidden away on Presque isle state park is cranberry bog -

http://www.goerie.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2010309279962

in the city of erie and presque isle state park is where the cottonwood trees are most prevalent -
late spring (may) – summer (early july) the cottonwood seed will fly – AKA fuzzies, it also looks like snow when it piles up and sometimes a blizzard during a strong wind – http://www.presqueisle.org/blogs/presqueisle/2011/06/snow-in-june-and-the-sweet-aromas-of-approaching-summer-make-their-annual-visits-to-presque-isle/

trees and plants

I’m planning to create a new website in the future(within the next year) and I don’t want to use a credit card but I need CGI scripting. So any ideas?

Chosen Answer:

If you are serious about websites either for personal or your business, don’t go to free web hosting as they are usually not reliable and you may end up losing all your hard work. Free web hosts usually put advertisements on your websites and it could be annoying.

If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months’ time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukenden/

They offer hosting of “unlimited domains” and you will get massive webspace of 300000 MB (300 GB ). They only charge .95/month and they offer “a free Domain Name” and installing service called “Fantastico”. By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer “Free Website Builder” as well.
Visit the site to check details.

Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukenden/

I plan to start up a website and have it ready in 3-5 months. I want to reserve the domain name now by purchasing it through Yahoo — right now, it’s .99 for the first year. I want to transfer the domain name to hostmonster.com after I get the site ready. Will I still have to pay into Yahoo to keep my domain name or will my domain name be secured with hostmonster?

Chosen Answer:

HostMonster and BlueHost are owned by the same parent company. Both offer the same quality services at the same prices. But according my experience, BlueHost runs on faster server.
